British Rally Cross at Lydden Hill Race Track
From a young age, I’ve always enjoyed watching motorsport, whether F1 and rally racing on the television, or when older going to Brands Hatch for the touring cars and HGV truck racing. The joy of motorsport is more than a visual buzz. The roar of the engines putting down their power is a huge part of the spectacle; the smell of the engines, the heat when up close and the knowledge that each driver is at the edge of their limit in pursuing that chequered flag.
The first time I went to a race track and heard those engines revving on the start line was intoxicating. I was captivated and tried to do the feeling justice with my camera. The more races I’ve been to, the more my anticipation has improved and knowing what I want to convey in a picture as become more tangible. The photo above was taken at Lydden Hill race track where during a rally cross event, I wanted to showcase the chaos at times when you can’t always see the cars due to the track layout but then they reappear bursting through the corner, and managing to get the colossal amount of dust trailing being the car to block out the road behind highlighted this perfectly.
